Sinus pressure is a problem that affects millions of Americans every year. Sinus pressure has multiple causes and is one of the most frequent problems that we treat at East Texas Sinus and Dizziness Center. The three largest causes of sinus pressure are seasonal allergies, the common cold, & sinusitis. All three of these conditions cause mucus to build up in the nose, which prevents the sinuses from draining properly. The good thing is that you can typically relive the symptoms from home.
Here are a few ways that you can relieve sinus pressure from home:
- Steam – Steam helps moisten the sinus cavity and makes it easier to move mucus out of your nose.
- Rest – If the sinus pressure is the result of an infection, rest helps fight off the infection faster.
- Hydration – Like steam, keeping hydrated helps keep the sinuses moist. It also keeps them from getting dryer and causing more pain.
- Saline Nasal Sprays – The salt int the saline spray help retain moisture and decrease pressure.
- OTC Medicine – Pain killers help relieve the pain, and decongestants help clear out the mucus by relieving congestion.
If none of these strategies work, contact a doctor. Frequent sinus infections or sinus pain can be the result of conditions such as chronic sinusitis. Conditions like this typically require other, more involved forms of treatment. If you are dealing with this or any similar conditions, please contact The East Texas Sinus and Dizziness Center in L0ngview, TX.
