Cleaning Your CPap Machine and Resolving Snoring Issues in Longview Tx

Snoring Issues Longview Tx

If you suffer from sinus problems and use a CPAP machine, it’s vital to understand the importance of keeping your equipment clean. Without cleaning it properly on a regular basis, your machine can develop mold, bacteria, and viruses. Below are several tips on keeping every part of your CPAP machine clean.

Air Filter

The filter to your CPAP machine should be inspected regularly. Clean it once a week and when necessary, change it. Over time, filters wear out and cannot allow enough clean air to pass through to your mask. When your filter is worn out, replace it.

The headgear to your machine should be washed every week. Fill a container with warm water. Add liquid antibacterial soap to the water. Take a soft cloth and immerse it into the soapy water. Squeeze out any access liquid. Wipe your headgear clean with the cloth. Rinse the cloth in cool, clean water and wipe off any soap residue. Do not use any type of toxic chemical or bleach product to clean your headgear as this could irritate your skin. Allow your headgear to dry air thoroughly. Do not put into a dryer.

Be sure to remove any remaining water from the reservoir each night before you go to sleep. Add clean distilled water. If your humidifier allows, clean it in the dishwasher. If not, use warm soapy water to keep it clean. Rinse it with clean water and wipe it with a soft cloth before allowing it to air dry. Disinfect your humidifier every week using a one to three-part vinegar and water solution. Place the humidifier into the solution and allow it to sit for about twenty minutes. Rinse it thoroughly and allow it to air dry.

Use a disinfectant wipe to clean your mask when you wake up each morning. Once a week, use warm soapy water to thoroughly clean it. Use the instruction for cleaning your headgear with your mask.

While you should wash the tubing to your machine a minimum of once a week, it is best to wash it every day. Fill a container with warm soapy water. Immerse the tubing in the water and allow it to sit for several minutes, making sure that the soapy water gets inside to remove any residue. Fill another container with cool, clean water. Remove the tubing from the soapy water and place it into the clean water. Allow it to set for a few minutes to remove any soap. Remove the tubing from the clean water and place it on a towel to air dry completely.

Cleaning Tips

  • Wipe your machine every day with disinfectant wipes.
  • Wash your face before bed.
  • Avoid using facial lotions and creams at night.
  • Mark regular cleaning notifications on your calendar.
  • If possible, use distilled water to clean your CPAP machine parts.
  • If you become ill, be even more diligent in keeping your machine clean.
  • Consider purchasing an automated CPAP sanitizer to keep your machine free from bacteria, mold, germs, and viruses.
